Hemostatic Agents

Mykito non-animal chitosan is free from beta-glucans, heavy metals, and other contaminants commonly present in conventional chitosan. The Mykito technology is robust, highly repeatable, and consistently produces reliable,

high-quality results.

Wound Hemostasis

Chitosan-based wound dressings are highly effective for controlling bleeding, particularly in patients on anticoagulants. They can be used for both minor wounds and severe hemorrhages in emergency situations. Chitosan promotes platelet adhesion and helps activate the coagulation cascade, rapidly slowing or stopping bleeding [Stricker-Krongrad,Sanjanwala,Wang].

Dental Hemostasis

Chitosan dressings can be useful peri-operatively as they induce platelet adhesion, aggregation, and blood coagulation. As it electrostatically interacts with proteins in the blood, this helps enhance bleeding control and clotting at wound sites and assists with the healing process [Keast].

Cardiovascular Procedures

Anticoagulants are a mainstay in treating heart attacks, but Chitosan may achieve similar effects without the same risks. The use of Chitosan implants may be able to utilize its anticoagulant properties to prevent blood clots from further forming while maintaining mechanical integrity [Acosta,Imran].

Hemostasis in Animals

Chitosan also interacts with various components of animals’ clotting process to help control bleeding. The application of Chitosan granules provides an effective means of reducing the volume of blood loss and quicker hemostasis [Senel,Drewnowska,Maldonado-Cabrera].
